I’m doing a report, but I can’t seem to find too much information about what dog breeds were popular in America during the 1770′s. Can anybody help?

Interesting question. But given the fact the 1700′s were pretty rural lifestyle, the most likely dogs were hound mixes or retriever mixes – something used for hunting and a watchdog around the house. I don’t think there was very many “purebred” dogs around. Maybe poodles for the city people.
Dog shows didn’t start till in the 1800′s.

Coonhounds / fox hounds
Apparently George Washington impoted loads from England , becuse of his love for hunting . From those dogs i believe they mixed with other breeds and i believe George Washington is credited for the development of Treeing walker coonhounds .
Google and see . I may be wrong .
