Here’s my sheltie Taz’s appearance on Pet Star performing his routine of tricks while blindfolded, the first dog to my knowledge to ever do such a thing. I would never have thought a dog would anything like this, particularly since most dogs refuse to move when they have their eyes covered. But once I found out he was willing to do simple tricks like waving with the blindfold on, we just started working out harder and harder skills and he just totally amazed me with his uncanny ability to figure things out as we went along, and most importantly…still having fun while doing it! He is quite a show-off and clearly enjoys the attention he gets when doing tricks like this. I do have to laugh a bit at Mario holding him all through the judge’s intro and comments. Taz is not particularly fond of being held but is too polite to really object to it, but they actually had to tape that twice so both Taz and Mario were obviously getting very tired and quite happy when he finally put him down!

In January 2010, DDB Founder Tamira Thayne was charged with trespassing for providing food, water, and straw to two underweight dogs in Lilly, PA. The charges were subsequently dropped on appeal. Dog caretakers Jason and Krystal Cann came to Dogs Deserve Better in June with the desire for their dogs to be a success story. So on June 6, 2010, everyone got their miracle. @maryjo313 indeeaad! :)
January 5th, 2011 at 2:00 pm
@kattskrall – yeah Mario really didn’t know dogs that well, very few dogs want a stranger picking them up like that! Taz dealt with it, but he certainly wasn’t happy about it!
January 5th, 2011 at 2:54 pm
@ParalyzedDenial – it wasn’t so much showing him off, but I would sometimes get comments about this trick being “mean” and I wanted to show that the scarf was not all that tight, just enough that it wouldn’t fall off. Later I modified the end of the trick with Taz pulling it off himself just to show how easily he could! This trick I think is a great example of how positive training can allow you to train a dog to do something that normally they would never allow….and to do it with enthusiasm!

@madibabesXD – ha, you are probably right! I always think they just disliked the silly celebrity judges.

RUN FREE AND BE HAPPY LITTLE DOGGIES! YOU RUN JUST AS MUCH AS YOUR LITTLE HEARTS DESIRE! then go inside and get your lovins! thank you for rescuing them. no animal deserves to be left chained and freezing and starving…i will never understand….
January 5th, 2011 at 9:51 pm
@94hah Several things—what is an “outside” dog? Dogs are pack animals who belong with their families!
Second–too big? Then don’t have that breed! I have 8 large ones here….
Ok, only two things.
Respect for all life. I would not leave you outside–even if you were dressed for the weather. I would bring you in, too.
January 5th, 2011 at 10:35 pm
@94hah Ask yourself that question but replace “dog” with “child”. Dogs are emotional beings & pack oriented, which means they need family to flourish. Can you tell by looking at a dog whether it is happy, sad or angry? We all can- instantly. All you have to do is ask yourself- “Is what I’m providing for this dog good enough for ME to be happy if treated the same way?” I don’t think they are people. My respect for them doesn’t require them to be. Bring them in and find out what your missing.
January 5th, 2011 at 11:07 pm
Thank you for all that you do :)
January 5th, 2011 at 11:59 pm
So can I ask you a question?!? If a caretaker gives the dog straw for their dog house and takes them in side a kennel in a garage in when it is negative temps and provides food and water are they being abusive to that dog. Even though it is an outdoor dog. And why do some people think that you need to have dogs inside all the time when they are to big to be inside.

When our faith in humanity runs low someone like Tamira comes along and replenishes it.
Thanks for all you do.
January 6th, 2011 at 5:35 am
This is so heartwarming. How anybody can ill-treat and neglect their pets like that is beyond me and I just can’t understand the mentality of people like that. Thank god for people who do care and have a sense of decency though. You’re very lucky to have been able to give these two wonderful dogs a new, happy life and freedom, and they’re lucky to have such a great new home and owners!
January 6th, 2011 at 6:34 am
wonderful-look at them run and the tails wagging. Wonder if they ever even got the chance to have contact with eachother before that. Thank you for saving them
January 6th, 2011 at 6:45 am

January 6th, 2011 at 7:55 am
you rock! I have tears pouring down my face!!!! What an awesome video; why have a dog if you are going to chain it up? Useless! People make me sick but I love you, you are awesome for what you do!
January 6th, 2011 at 8:13 am
I really despise people! Thanks DDB for never letting “it” rest!!
January 6th, 2011 at 8:41 am
My god,” they” destroy our earth, they chain dog’s for the entire of their live’s, if we as humans enjoy freedom, why is it that dog’s are still chained for all of their live’s, what is it in the “human” spirit that conspires this? If we enjoy the greatness of being free to enjoy our live’s, WHY DO IGNORANT…..PPL. CHAIN????
January 6th, 2011 at 9:38 am
